Gachagua: My views represent thoughts of many Kenyans

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Friday maintained that his views on what constitutes an appropriate revenue sharing formula have the support of a majority of Kenyans.

The country’s second-in-command insists he takes time to listen to ordinary citizens before he takes a position on a matter as pertinent as revenue sharing. According to Gachagua, his publicly-expressed perspectives represent the feelings of most Kenyans.

“Mimi ni mtu wa kuskiza ground. Ukisikia kitu ninasema ni ile ground inasema. Mimi kama Rigathi Gachagua sina sauti yangu. Mimi naongea kwa niaba. Ukisikia nimechua msimamo fulani, iko watu wengi nyuma yangu wananiambia msimamo ni huo,” said Gachagua at an event in Kasarani.

The Deputy President was not alone. Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei who accompanied him to the event alongside a number of other leaders says the DP’s sentiments are justified. Cherargei says he sees nothing wrong with method suggested by Gachagua.

“Naibu Rais hakufanya makosa kusema tutumie principle of equity. Kama hapa kasarani ambapo kuna watu wengi lazima wapewe pesa ya kutosha kufanya maendeleo. Naibu Rais anasema kila mtu apewe haki yake,” he said

He, and others in attendance, also took issue with lawmakers led by Majority Leader in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wah for allegedly being insolent to the Deputy President.

“Mimi nataka Kimani Ichung’wah akuheshimu (Naibu Rais) na awache madharau. Tunaona hata akisalimia rais anaweka mkono kwa mfuko,” he charged

“Wale vijana walienda kutusi naibu wa rais Rigathi Gachagua ndani ya Bunge tunawaambia waangalie mienendo zao. Mtu wa kutukana naibu rais anatukana Wakenya kwa sababu hiyo kiti ni ya Wakenya,” added James Gakuya, MP Embakasi North

They also faulted Speaker of National Assembly Moses Wetangula for according legislators time to “bash” the deputy president in the floor of the House.

“Bunge haiwezi tumiwa kutusi Naibu Rais na hatutakubali. Hata nashangaa Spika Moses Wetangula ambaye ni wakili anakubali aje naibu rais atusiwe ndani ya Bunge,” they said
