Reigning Football Kenya Federation Premier League champions Gor Mahia have been drawn in what’s considered group of death at this year’s CECAFA Kagame Cup.
The tournament is scheduled July 9th-21st in Dar E Salam Tanzania with Azam Complex in Chamazi and newly built KMC Stadium in Kinondoni as venues of the championship.
Gor Mahia who last won the regional title nearly 40 years ago will face Zambia’s Red Arrows, Djibouti’s Telecom Fc and Sudan’s Al Hila Fc in group B .
The draw held in Dar E Salam on Wednesday involved twelve teams being drawn in three pools of four teams each. Top teams from each group and one best runner up wil advance to the semi finals
Group A comprises Tanzania’s Coastal Union, Sudan’s Alwadi, Zanzibar’s JKU, and Somalia’s Dekadaha FC, while Group C includes Uganda’s Sports Club Villa, Rwanda’s APR FC, Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars, and South Sudan’s Al Merreikh Bentiu.
Tusker Fc is the latest Kenyan club to lift the trophy after doing so in 2008 while AFC Leopards is the most successful Kenyan club in the tournament with six titles.
Newly appointed Gor Mahia head coach Leonard Martins Neiva will have his first task at the tournament hoping to kickstart his two year contract on a winning note.
46-year old Neiva was announced as Kogallo head coach this week and took over from Jonathan Mckinistry who has gone on to become Gambia national soccer team head coach.
Leonardo,a Brazillian, who holds CAF A and UEFA Pro license,is not so new to the East Africa soccer scene having previously coached Uganda’s Vipers Sports Club,Tanzania’s Yanga and Sudan’s champions El-Mereikh.

Group C: Sports Club Villa (Uganda), APR FC (Rwanda), Singida Black Stars (Tanzania), Al Mereik Bentui (South Sudan)
