Ignore rumours, Kenya police in Haiti safe – IG

The Inpector General of Police Japheth Koome has dismissed claims that the country has lost some officers recently deployed to Haiti on a peace mission.
Koome, in a statement, described the reports as baseless and unwareanted.
“The attention of this office has been drawn to the unfounded, false, unpatriotic,and malicious claims circulating on social media that seven National Police Service Officers have been killed in Haiti,”
“We wish to clarify to the public that our Officers left Kenya on June 24, 2024 and were not only received warmly by the great people of Haiti on arrival, but are also all safe and ready to discharge their clear and specific mandate,” He said
Since their arrival in the Caribbean country, the IG says the Kenyan police contigent has been working closely with their host, the Haitian National Police, and have so far undertaken strategic mapping of the key areas of operational concerns and conducted several joint patrols within the country’s capital, Port-au-Prince.
He reiterate that Kenya’s mission in Haiti is a noble task for the good of the citizens in the Caribbean nation even as he asked Kenyans “to support them as they lift our national flag high, along with discharging their international policing mandat,”
Koome says the National Police Service will deliver timely updates on the progress of the Haiti Mission.
