KTDA dispels claims of unsold teas in its stocks

The Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) dispelled the claims that there was unsold teas in its stocks as purported by Williamson Tea Kenya PLC in its financial disclosures and as reported in sections of the media amounting to 200 million kilogrammes.

In a statement, KTDA said that stocks cannot be destroyed since no such stocks exist as alleged.

“Further, the assertion that the purported stocks are disrupting the market is untrue and unfounded.” KTDA said.

Adding that: “Any tea in the warehouse represents farmers’ hard work and cannot be destroyed unless it is unfit for consumption.”

Consequently, KTDA noted that it holds no expired teas and adheres to high standards in its entire value chain from plucking, processing, transportation, and storage to maintain the highest quality for consumers worldwide.
