Police Fc defeat KCB in  shoot-out to win MozzartBet Cup

Kenya Police Fc beat KCB FC 8-7 via post match penalties to  win their maiden  Mozzart Bet Cup at Ulinzi Sports Complex,Langata,Nairobi..

After a stalemate in regular and extra time penalties were taken to decide the winner with Police holding their nerves to win the tense shoot out.

KCB created chances in the opening stages of the match with Philemon Nyakwaka failing to beat Police Fc custodian Patrick Matasi who raced off his line to block his attempt.

Police’s FC nearly snatched the lead after Abiud Omar’s floated cross marksman David Okoth who however failed to get his effort  past KCB goalkeeper Farouk Shikhalo.

Police continued to pile pressure but  poor finishing cost them with Clinton Kinanga scuffing his shot with  Shikhalo to beat.

Both teams failed to breach each others defence in extra time and penalties were taken to decide the winner.

Patrick Matasi saved two penalties and scored the winner  eliciting wild celebrations among jubilant Police FC fans  at Ulinzi Complex.

Matasi was named man of the match as well as the tournaments best goalkeeper after keeping four clean sheets. His counterpart David ‘Messi’ Owino received the most valuable player,MVP,award for the tournament.

Following the win Kenya Police Fc was awarded Ksh.2Million and will represent the Kenya in CAF Confederations Cup next season.

Meanwhile AFC Leopards finished third after edging out Kariobangi Sharks 2-1 in a third place play off that preceded the final.

Victor Omune handed the ten time FKF Cup winners the lead in the 15^th minute after a mix up in Kariobangi Sharks backline.

Right back Randi Bakari  headed home the second to hand Ingwe a 2-0 half time lead. Centre referee Lucy Juma awarded a penalty that was vehemently protested by Afc Leopards however  Kariobangi Sharks missed the spot kick as  John Mark Makwatta’s strike went inches wide.

AFC would be awarded a penalty as well  but Arthur Gitego  hit the frame of the goal.Sharks pulled one back through substitute Keith Imbali’s header but Leopards held on to win the match.

Leopard centre forward Arthur Gitego walked away with the tourney’s golden boot after scoring a total of five goals.

defensive mix up opened the scoring for AFC Leopards in the 15th minute. Randy Bakari made it 2-0 in the 35th minute, giving the team a first-half advantage.
