Finance Bill: Bondo residents demonstrate against MP

Bondo Member of Parliament Gedion Ochanda for supporting the controversial Finance Bill 2024 in the National Assembly on Thursday.

Business came to a standstill as the residents, carrying a coffin within which there was the effigy of the MP along streets chanting dirges and shouting slogans against the legislator.

Accusing the legislator of betrayal, the demonstrators who included the youth and the old said by voting “yes”, Ochanda had clearly demonstrated that he had no interest of the people who elected him.

Addressing the media the residents said it was quite unfortunate for their MP to vote in favor of the Bill which he clearly knows that was punitive.

They called on the ODM, which sponsored Ochanda to parliament, to take a disciplinary action against him reiterating that he has betrayed not only his constituents but the entire ODM party fraternity together with its leadership.

They said they will no longer recognize him as their MP arguing that he (Ochanda) cannot afford to go against the wishes of his party leader Raila Odinga and support the bill when Kenyans were up in arms against it across the entire nation.
