KWS urges Kenyans to protect crocodiles from extinction

As the World marks Crocodile Day, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) is warning the reptiles are threatened with extinction.

The organisation that conserves and manages Kenya’s wildlife cites habitat destruction, pollution, and poaching as the key overall threats while underscoring the vital role that reptiles play in the ecosystems.

“Crocodiles play a vital role in their ecosystems, maintaining the balance of aquatic environments. However, they face threats from habitat destruction, pollution, and poaching” KWS said on X.

The World Crocodile Day is celebrated on 17  June to raise awareness and highlight the plight of endangered crocodiles and alligators.

“This World Crocodile Day, let’s raise awareness and support conservation efforts to protect these incredible reptiles. Together, we can ensure that crocodiles continue to thrive for generations to come” added KWS.
