Meru: Ksh 6.5M facility launched to boost healthcare provision

Residents of Nkuene Ward in Meru County will now have easier access to healthcare services following the commissioning of a state-of-the-art healthcare facility constructed by the KPC Foundation.

The facility was constructed and equipped at a cost of Ksh 6.5 million and is expected to enhance access to basic healthcare needs for the 58,000 members of Nkuene Ward community.

KPC Managing Director, Mr. Joe Sang, said as a responsible corporate citizen, KPC through the Foundation partners with communities and other organisations to address some of the pressing day-to-day needs like healthcare which he said, was out of reach for millions of Kenyans.

“Many Kenyans cannot afford quality healthcare services, and that is why KPC Foundation is taking deliberate steps to advance healthcare delivery at the community level. Only about 20% of Kenyans have access to medical covers leaving the majority excluded from quality healthcare coverage. Consequently, most Kenyans spend a huge amount of their income on health,” he said.

KPC Foundation partnered with Agha Khan Hospital and conducted a two-day free medical camp at the newly unveiled dispensary. This was the 14th medical camp since the KPC Foundation was founded.

Mr Martin Makasi, the Nkuene Ward MCA said the dispensary had brought healthcare closer to the doorsteps of Ukuu community members and thanked KPC Foundation for the kind gesture.

“We appreciate the KPC Foundation for the commissioning of this facility which will be of great benefit to this community. This facility will help reduce the distance the locals travel to access essential medical services.”

The facility is equipped with modern medical infrastructure, diagnostic equipment, consultation rooms and specialized treatment areas.
