Moraa and Serem to lead Kenya for  World Athletics U-20 Championships in Peru

800m African Champion Sarah Moraa and 3000msc silver medalist Edmund Serem are among the 19 athletes who have been selected in team Kenya, for the World under 20 athletics championships slated for Lima Peru this August.

Moraa won the 800m final on Friday clocking 2:00.01, missing out on Olympic Games qualifying time of 1:59.30.

Moraa will be joined in Peru by Janet Jepkemoi for the two laps race.

Serem, fresh from bagging silver in Cameroon, dominated the 3000msc to qualify for world championships and will be joined by Mathew Kosgei.

The team was named on Friday following the conclusion of a two day national trials at the Nyayo National stadium.

Mercy Chepkemoi and Sheila Jebet will be the only athletes who will double up at the championships,with Chepkemoi selected in both 3,000m and 5,000m, while Jebet will be competing in 1500m and 5,000m .

However sprinters failed to make the cut during the trials which officials attributed to change on the date for trials from the initial time of mid July.

The team is set to report to residential training camp later next month ahead of the global championships set for 27th-31st August .

Kenya finished 4th in the 2022 edition in Cali,Colombia with 3 gold, 3 silver and 4 silver medals.
