Tributes continue to pour in for Fred Omondi

Comedian turned-activist Eric Omondi is mourning the loss of his younger brother who passed away in a tragic accident on Saturday.

According to the police, Fred Omondi, died at the scene of the accident that occurred near the Caltex Petrol station when a bodaboda carrying Fred collided head-on with a speeding bus.

“The rider suffered serious multiple injuries on both right legs and fractures on both hands. He was rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital for treatment and the body of the deceased is lying at the said hospital mortuary pending postmortem,” the police report read.

Fred was on his way home following an event at Captain’s Lounge and Grill along Mombasa Road.

On Saturday, Eric posted an old music video for the ” Kasuku ” song they worked on together. The song was meant to spread awareness about bad leadership and the challenges that come with it.

He captioned the video, “Go Well, brother.”

Celebrities were quick to console Eric among them fellow comedian Jacky Vike, Vera Sidika, Bien Aime, Kate Kamau, Lulu Hassan, Tanasha Donna, Timothy “Njugush” Ndegwa, Nadia Mukami, Eddie Buttita, Wahu and more.

Comedian Daniel “Churchill” Ndambuki also shared a video celebrating Fred and comedic charisma. Fred worked as a comedian on the popular Churchill Show.

Following his death on Saturday, former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko quickly shared his tribute.

“The late Fred Omondi was an MC and event organiser during my daughter’s graduation party. He did a tremendous job by bringing on board top artistes, dancers, and gospel singers to entertain our guests.

“On behalf of my family, I pray God comforts and gives the Omondi family enough strength to sail through this storm. Receive my sincere condolences,” Mr Sonko said.

Senator Millicent Omanga also shared her tribute calling Fred a gem.

“The creative industry has lost a gem. Fred Omondi brightened our living rooms with his addictive comedy renditions.

“That he has tragically lost his life in a road accident is heart-rending. I commiserate with his family friends and his fans. May his soul find perfect peace,” Ms Omanga said.

Fred Omondi is scheduled to be buried on Junee 22, in Bondo Nyanza. A memorial service will be held at CITAM Valley Road on Friday, June 21.
