Governor Sakaja condemns police brutality on Finance Bill protestors

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has condemned the police brutality against protesters of the Finance Bill 2024/2025 in Nairobi.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of Kihumbuini Stadium in Westlands, Sakaja said the every Kenyan has a right to peacefully protest and voice their opinions on critical matters.

He reassured Nairobi residents that President William Ruto is aware of their concerns about the Finance Bill.

The Governor who is affiliated with the ruling party UDA, expressed confidence that the President will address the issues raised by the demonstrators.

“The constitution allows Kenyans to demonstrated as long as they are peaceful and not armed. I condemn the brutality meted on those young Kenyans. If people want to picket, let them because we must protect our democracy at all cost,” said Sakaja.

He emphasized the importance of listening to the common people saying the government, under President Ruto’s leadership, will consider the protesters’ proposals regarding the contentious finance bill.

The Governor said the Kihumbuini stadium will be built to international standards to enhance soccer in Nairobi.

“This stadium will create numerous opportunities. The county will generate revenue, and local residents will have the chance to start businesses around the busy stadium once it is completed,” Sakaja stated.

Sakaja revealed that Nairobi County currently earns over one million shillings monthly from Dandora Stadium, which hosts the Kenyan Premier league.

The Governor mentioned plans to construct additional stadiums across the county, with some already under construction and others scheduled for the next financial year.

The stadiums include Umoja Tena Complex, Jericho, Ziwani, Woodley, Highrise, Kawangware BP, and Joe Kadenge, among others.
