MPs to debate Finance Bill 2024 amid protests

All eyes are on Parliament this afternoon as the Committee on Finance chaired by Molo MP Kimani Kuria tables its report on the Finance Bill 2024.

Kenyans who continue to express their displeasure with the Bill have asked MPs to shoot it down even as a section of civil society groups plan to stage a sitting outside Parliament.

The activists have called on members of the public to come out in large numbers to join the protest dubbed #OccupyParliament.

Majority of Kenyans complaining about the high cost of living have termed the bill which proposes more taxes as punitive.

Other matters lined up for the afternoon plenary sitting include the First reading of the Appropriations Bill and the Committee of the Whole House on the Kenya Drugs Authority Bill Sponsored by MP Robert Pukose.

The Second Reading of the Care and Protection of Child Parents Bill (Senate Bill No.20 of 2023) Co-sponsored by MP Beatrice Kemei is also a top agenda while reports of the Auditor-General on the National Government Constituencies Development Fund for Nine Constituencies in Bungoma County will be tabled.

Also under consideration is the Mung Beans Bill (Senate Bill No. 13 of 2022) and a motion on Enhancing Reporting of Parliamentary Business on Online Platforms.
